Following a serious car accident in 2001, Simon Richardson MBE was cycling as part of his rehabilitation – using a specially adapted bike powered by his right leg and a support system fitted to his spine.
Simon showed incredible determination with his training, which led him into a competitive career. Seven years after the accident, Simon was picked for the Great Britain Paralympic Squad for the 2008 games in Beijing, China.
It was here Simon recorded his greatest achievements, after winning a gold medal and setting a world record in the men’s 1km time trial, a gold medal in the men’s individual pursuit, and a silver medal in the road time trial. He also competed in the men’s individual road race where he finished in tenth place.
Simon experienced a huge setback when his ambitions for the London 2012 Paralympics were dashed when he was involved in a second car accident in August 2011. Following a very tough recovery, Simon is now back training on the bike. We’re really proud to be supporting Simon, who is using the InfoCrank power meter to track his efforts.
